Kemlu: Hari Danau Sedunia komitmen RI kelola keberlanjutan danau
Every year on July 2nd, countries around the world celebrate World Lake Day to raise awareness about the importance of lakes and the need for their sustainable management. In Indonesia, this day is known as “Hari Danau Sedunia” and is a reminder of the vital role that lakes play in our ecosystem.
This year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) of the Republic of Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to the sustainable management of lakes in the country. With over 500 lakes spread across the archipelago, Indonesia is home to a diverse range of ecosystems that are vital for biodiversity and water resources.
One of the key initiatives that Kemlu has been working on is the Lake Toba Management Authority (BPL Danau Toba). Lake Toba, located in North Sumatra, is the largest volcanic lake in the world and a UNESCO Global Geopark. The establishment of BPL Danau Toba aims to ensure the sustainable development of the lake and its surrounding areas, taking into account the needs of local communities and the preservation of the environment.
In addition to Lake Toba, Kemlu is also working on various projects to protect and manage other lakes in Indonesia. This includes collaboration with local governments, communities, and international partners to promote sustainable practices such as water conservation, waste management, and ecotourism.
Sustainable management of lakes is crucial for the preservation of biodiversity, the prevention of water pollution, and the mitigation of climate change impacts. By recognizing the importance of lakes and taking proactive measures to protect them, Indonesia is contributing to the global effort to achieve sustainable development goals.
As we celebrate World Lake Day, let us all remember the importance of lakes in our ecosystem and the need to work together to ensure their sustainable management. Through collaboration and commitment, we can preserve our lakes for future generations to enjoy.
