Lebanon desak DK PBB selidiki serangan Israel terhadap UNIFIL
Beirut – Lebanon has called on the United Nations Security Council to investigate Israel’s recent attack on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The attack, which took place near the southern Lebanese village of Majidiyeh, resulted in the injury of two peacekeepers and the destruction of a UN vehicle.
Lebanese Foreign Minister, Nassif Hitti, condemned the attack as a violation of international law and a threat to regional stability. He called on the Security Council to hold Israel accountable for its actions and to ensure the safety of UNIFIL personnel operating in Lebanon.
UNIFIL has been stationed in southern Lebanon since 1978, following the Israeli invasion of Lebanon. The mission of the peacekeeping force is to monitor and report on violations of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, and to assist the Lebanese government in maintaining peace and security in the region.
The recent attack on UNIFIL comes amidst heightened tensions between Israel and Lebanon, following a series of incidents along the border in recent weeks. Lebanese officials have accused Israel of violating Lebanese sovereignty and of conducting provocative military maneuvers in the border area.
Israel, on the other hand, has accused Lebanon of allowing the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah to operate freely in southern Lebanon, in violation of UN Security Council resolutions. Israel has also expressed concerns about Hezbollah’s increasing arsenal of rockets and missiles, which it sees as a threat to its security.
The escalating tensions between Israel and Lebanon have raised fears of a new conflict in the region, which could have devastating consequences for both countries and for the wider Middle East. The international community has called for restraint and for dialogue between the two sides to prevent further escalation.
Lebanon’s call for an investigation into Israel’s attack on UNIFIL is a step towards holding Israel accountable for its actions and for upholding international law. It is imperative that the Security Council takes action to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel in Lebanon, and to prevent further incidents that could lead to a wider conflict in the region.
